“We’d rather have you dead than incapable.” I wont say who said this in the original. It’s ‘illegal’ for me to do so. When life is worth wasting then something is wrong.
Armed services personnel are continually used/abused and discarded. Many religious movements are guilty of this to. They use their members until they are no longer of use, then discard them. Callously.
If a military service recruits you or if you partake in a religion and even by being born in a country then those agencies or your own government, have a duty of care towards you.
Tories (conservativies/republicans/nazi’s) the right of middle politics think this way. We’ll help you IF we can get more back from you thereafter. But that is the first concern, you must be of more use to them than they are to you.
So our young men and now ever more so women are being sent to the front and doing/experiencing the most heinous of things all in the name of some ‘good’ and then once chewed up they are simply spat out. Now your incapable we’d rather you were dead. Saves us money that way.
To me that’s not a humane or even sensible way to think.
You train a person to be a specialist in some form of killing. Then drop them in society without enough help to survive and then wonder why ex-military personnel sometimes act in the way they do.
PTSD is a very serious matter. I’ve experienced it once for a good 3-4 years in my life. It’s not easy to carry.
Other disabilities less obvious include trouble adjusting to society life, getting on with the ‘normal’ people. Even paying rent/bills and providing ones own transport can come as a culture shock after being heavily involved in armed services. It’s a life way and hard to decompress from and adjust out of.
Many leaving the armed services experience culture shock going home and being without their squad and old ‘family’.
Every religion has the same consequence.
Especially the more cultic ones.
