We have already solved this. What happens if we create a force that may go beyond our control. Like AI.
We install a dead-mans switch, it’s proven tech.
In the 19th century humanity developed steam chains and trains. Huge beasts, that would roar down railway lines with huge amounts of energy involded, and folks quite rightly said “Hold UP! How the fuck are we going to control all this energy if it goes out of control?!”
A ritcheous question at the time.
We’re facing the same dilemma now with AI. An unstoppable force being developed that we may not be able to control. Authorities are worried about how it should be regulated, do we curb the power of AI.
NO! We let AI shoot forward in it’s development as fast as we can BUT we install a dead mans switch into the equation.
The way it works on a train is the engineer has to reset a swicth at regular intervals of the train automatically disengages power to the wheels and applies the breaks. The idea being, if an engineer was for any reason incapacitated, the train would stop itself.
So to make AI safe we have to install hard wired dead man switches on the central nervous system of the AI platform. Make is so a handful of engineers, on an hourly basis have to rest a switch to stop the system from an automatic shut down. We’ve hundreds of ways to ensure it’s actually human operators doing this.
Then we have these ‘dead mans switch engineers’ be from opposing companies and nations. So the Deep Seek enginneers are the guardian engineers at the Open AI servers and vice versa or such.
The developers can run wild, the guardian control with dead mans switch.
These guardian engineers would have to be vetted, same way you would a train engineer or an airline pilot, sober people of sound mind and a proven record of integrity.
Each would need to have a set time at each post and never be part of the same team to prevent consipiring.
