When defense is defense only then less offense is needed. Some argue you fight fire with fire I argue you should fight fire with water.
Japan has an interesting national security policy. Did you know Japan has made it unlawful for Japan to declare war on another country. The people of Japan have decided it is illegal for their country to declare war or take action that would cause another country to war on them.
Due to the aggression of China at times and also of course the conflict on the Korean peninsula Japan maintains a very high self defense armed services that is one of the most high tech in the world but it’s populace and government have decreed it is illegal for Japan as a country to go to war.
They have perhaps been the pioneers to a degree of soft power in the modern international global arena. They have limited natural resources comparatively but they built up a massively modern work force in their populace and they are pretty much on the leading edge of technology in many ways.
They sell this technology and goods to the world and so have a negotiation power in the world stage that they don’t need to conquer other countries for natural resource like the US and UK.
They use trade as a means of self defense before they need a high tech armed services.
Per the global peace index Japan ranks as 10th while the UK comes in as the 41st. The US ranks in at 114 for 2017 and Isreal and Palestine rank as 144 and 145 with Syria being the worst and least peaceful coming in at 163.
Every high school student knows that anger begets anger.
I would thus like to suggest that when one country drops bombs on another one then this will beget some retribution of some form or another.
If the combined military expense internationally was to be spent on space exploitation I dare say we’d already have landed people on Mars.
