We do live in a transitive time. From the acceptance of the Trans community to adjusting to living with AI.

We certainly live in a time of change.

ChatGPT is going to rock the boat. A brainchild of the company OpenAI.

Since Nov 30, 2022 it has been learning from everyone who uses it; how to be better chatter. The more you chat to it, the more it learns how to chat like a human. As time goes by it will become as good at chatting as any of us and will inevitably be much better not only with languages but also sums. So imagine chatting to a ‘pal’ that can do any computation at lightening speed and converse in every language that exists. And available 24/7, instantly to everyone who has a phone and internet connection.

Pretty cool right?

One off shoot of this is computer programers and lawyers are frequently putting questions to this chat bot about problems with writing a program or law or contract and getting very useable answers from the chat bot.

Which means lawyers and programmers, have, through many questions prompted this general AI to learn how to write computer program code, laws and contracts very professionally and efficiently… and for free!

Join the dots and give it a few years and those lawyers and programmers will be unemployed. Why? General AI can do it better than them and not so much cheaper, but for nothing.

College diplomas and university degrees are going to have an uphill struggle to keep their value for the masses.

Boohoo the programmers and lawyers right, we may have to add in painters and writers as well. But actually, they will be ok.

These college and university graduates will find employment as managers and the artists will excel in sales and marketing.

But the people they are replacing will take jobs with lower salaries too like store or shift managers.

So the shore managers end up working the floor again, so less room for the intake of new employees…

You get the point.

As AI takes over it’s the poor man who’s going to suffer first… for what? To give a computer the job?

In a few years this general AI mind will be popped into a robot. And remember, this AI intelligence can be deployed in a countless number of units.

Now manual labour can be done by said general AI. Trimming the hedge, cleaning the house. With a little time, this bot will be doing the plumbing, electrics, cleaning lawn, hanging up the washing and making you a cuppa.

And you can’t distinguish between talking to these and talking to a fellow human.

Imagine the amount of jobs that have just been taken over by automation. You’ve already seen the self service checkouts in supermarkets.

Self driving taxi’s?

Finding an AI proof job is already an issue.

You might just get away with a pilot career at the moment but your kids have an even less chance and your grandkids just won’t be trusted with flying a plane vs general AI.

So in a nutshell most of us have to start looking for a new career.

It’s not all bad news, services such as carers of those who are vulnerable and also counseling are going to be areas in which the human touch is going to be of paramount importance.

But even the sex industry is being upended with sex bots now.

It’s going to be an exciting ride but there will be casualties. And as per it’s going to hit the poor the most.

Governments should even now start considering plans for living post 2030, because by then there is going to be a serious amount of job displacement going on.

Let’s not end up going down the road of people identifying as computers and computers identifying as people just yet. That’s cyborgs and I’m not ready for that.
