Space for the Sake of Space

July 5, 2022

For the first time we’re going to the Moon so that we can go there.

We are about to go back to the Moon and the James Webb telescope is about to tell us how life began and if we are alone in the universe.

It is not longer about launching nukes at each other. The first space race between the USA and the Soviet Union was about who had the best rocket technology – it followed, whoever was the best with rockets could destroy the other one first…

Now we are doing it for it’s own sake. For the sake of conquering the stars at last. This may be a very small baby step but for once we are headed in the right direction.

Straight up!

With some never to return. As Elon Musk, the founder of the most successful rocket company in the world said, ‘I would rather die on Mars.’

Imagine a crisis when we have 1000 people living on Mars and some disaster makes a famine imminent…

The initial Space race has this saving grace, it was all about eh best rockets (ICBMs)… background channels between scientists directed the USSR to Venus and the USA to Mars.

So even in the height of the cold war, Space travel still brought some international collabaration. between the Soviets and Americans.
