Using guilt, blame, shame or regret to enforce some form of obedience on another.
The back bone of most religions and families and the special purview on cults.
Military services achieve the same means through the slightly more noble idea of duty but the result is the same and the consequence is war.
You find people who have sway over others do enjoy using it to their own ends.
Is that all bad?
“IF YOU DON’T MAKE 100 PUSH UPS YOUR FUCKING OUT OF HERE!” from a boxing coach for example.
That’s blackmail. Coercion. Stress inducing… To enforce pain, to make a person better able to damage another and also put himself on the line to perhaps end up fighting for his life.
But if it’s consensual and if you factor in the why behind it then it’s a coach just doing his job. And one the boxer should want him to do well.
If he’s got personal shit going on that needs sorting out before he can give his all to the gym then the coach should kick him out to sort said shit it and…
If your our version of good you will go to heaven if your their version of good then your a heathen, is such transparent bullshit I am surprised it is still so prevalent.
It’s most common in religion, the righteous mother and the military – make them suffer to show them what is good for them.
It’s a righteous high horse view of the world that no one is entitled to.
Cults are known for using blackmail as leverage over their followers and especially holding it over them when they leave. And quite viciously so.
I have had first had experience with this with being born into Scientology.
On that, I would say a person who is over 18 and joins a cult and signs whatever legal documents, has done so voluntarily. However a person, like myself who was born into such a mind controlling cult as Scientology, who ends up signing such legal documents has done so under coercive circumstances.
