Ever heard of Sputnik? The first ever man made satellite. Launched in 1957 it was the first ever. It put out a radio pulse anyone could receive and it only said to the world ‘I am here’ through a series of beeps.

It was launched by the then USSR which we now know as Russia.

It put the US on the back foot in the race.

People rallied together. Concerted their efforts. The Apollo rocket was invented.

This rocket’s invention led to more than a few discoveries through it’s eventual space flights. Many advances in space exploration and even ship navigation and weather/storm predictions.

But the one thing from it that will be most remembered is these words from one Mr. Neil Armstrong

“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind!” as he stepped out of his landing craft onto the Moon.

This decidedly put the US in the lead at last and it was a struggle.

Fast forward to today and we have now put a car in space as a commercial publicity stunt. A Tesla car.

Fitting in a way. As full of man’s folly as wisdom now.

Done by a company called Space X. It’s a private company run by a billionaire who has made a success of his vision.

We still have to answer the question of where did we come from and where are we going but we do know this.

We dodged extinction more than once and are still undeterred. And have so far got to the Moon.

Our quest for knowledge is bound only by our prejudice.

Our quest for advancement in technology is unlimited.

We try find some balance through religion and politics but we make progress because we have a will to do so.

When all is said and done. What will be your answer to this question:
