Religion Vs Fiction

April 30, 2018

Is there a difference? Heaven being above the clouds and hell being underground and 70 virgins in the afterlife if you kill yourself in the name of the ‘book’, does LOTR not have as many words of wisdom as the bible and koran? Difference being it’s more entertaining and more to the point, less serious with as much good advice. So why differentiate between religion and fiction.

Right the main point of religion seems to say be better to yourself and others. Love thy brother, be at peace and karma seem to sum it all up. So why the fairy tales?

To authenticate it, somehow.

People want to be a better version of themself and sometimes a religion with its tales of glory and wisdom and how it got there carries the unsuspecting off in the tale.

Alister Crowley, listed as one of Britain’s 100 greatest men of all time founded his church at the turn of the 20th century and signed his letters with the name of just 666. He ‘met’ an angel while on holiday in Egypt with his wife apparently and this angel told him all the ‘truths’ man ‘needed’ while he was getting drunk on wine between having wee shin digs with his new missus and the odd mistress… with her egging him on.

His church is extant today and is arguably a sex cult. It’s called OTO. Google away and stay away. Trust me.

So why the differentiation then? To make it more believable… but it is still fiction. Made up. From imagination. Drawn out of the clouds per se. Same as most novels.

Before one argues all religion is a hoax, remember religious people spend less time in jail, do less drugs and generally live a happier life. So there is something at the back of the fairy tale of course.

But are you chasing reality or a fictional dream made up by a messiah or just another good author of fiction?

Where will the next religion find it’s inspiration?
