But I think the ‘barbaric singing pagans’ have taken the day.
In a weekend known for celebrating the right to believe in ‘There is Hope’ we witness a tragedy.
As Sri Lanka recoils and London swelters what do we focus on going forward? More conflict between us and them or more cooperation between us? What’s your message. US vs THEM or US. Honestly, what do your stand for? A Better place for you and yours in the world or a better world?
I’d argue most ism’s are vying for the top spot.
The Extinction Rebellion have landed my vote because the spot they seem to vie for is just an US. There’s something wholesome to it, other established ism’s seem to miss.
They just seem to tick enough boxes altogether. Cooperate with police, refuse to involve themselves in violence, maintain manners, sing at the police and clean up afterwards. Send ambassadors to other protesters and are asking for a discourse with parliament. Like a collective peacefully asking for a seat at the table on world affairs is a refreshing idea for once. They come across as optimistically free of anger!
Now that counts. The side they are asking you to join is ALL OF US, many ism’s lay claim to this, few practice it.
They are fighting for a civil assembly to organize climate change the world over and honesty from the government while using civil disobedience to bring attention to their cause. They’ve set carbon emission levels I think are optimistic – but I think they’re optimism and enthuasism are a rare take on a cause that just seems to lack too much badness.
Slightly better take on things than Anonymous. Hiding behind masks and hacking computers – just seems more like smart ass dick heads than conscientious protesters. How dare they diss the rebuilding of something like Norte Dame. That someone thinks they have the right to tell another how to spend their money is well, being a bit too full of themselves.
A key difference for me for the cause of the Extinction Rebellion is the inclination towards the US in life instead of the US and THEM rhetoric.
They’re not Christians, Muslims, Nazi’s, far-right, far-left, sexually orientated or against the rich. They want a civil assembly adjoined to parliment to oversee change for climate for all of US. They’re main concern seems to be taking the livelyhood of those not as fortunate as us in the UK – so aye if the folk of the UK need to sit in some traffic to get the point, let them sit in traffic, they do it daily for a shift mostly anyway.
Civil disobedience is not a crime – these protesters could have been issued an on the spot fine. The law makers think otherwise more than enough of the police actually agree.
Another thing there’s a compassion between these protesters and the police. That should be taken note of.
And they go to pains to cooperate with authorities and thank the police for being there!
It’s a civil non-violent rebellion which is actually beautiful to behold.
More evolution the revolution in my eyes.
It’s causing disruption on Easter to ask for more unity than we have seen in Sri Lankra. While the London police argue more arrests have been made than during the first few days of the London riots – Sri Lanka needs to be sent a message more important than that.
Civil disobedience to open a civil discourse for the halt to climate change is better than bombs going off – wherever by whoever. Delivered however, by vest or plane, it’s still a bomb.
It’s a worthy message and the conscientious arrestee’s are hero’s. I daresay say others will pay the fines they get and the mark on their ‘criminal record’ will be a badge of pride for them.
I think one thing the police and arrestee’s have noticed this weekend is violence is not needed to make a point.
Happy Easter.
