People who join New Religious movements tend to be the slightly rebellious bunch with a bit of a sense of adventure and an inner need to feel belonging in a small tight community. <\/p>
But the same doesn’t always apply to their kids. <\/p>
New Religious movements have this in common, their members are all quite keen. They’ve found this new GREAT thing and they want or even need to be right about this sometimes radical decision to join a new religion. <\/p>
But it fills a need or gap they have in their life so they might distance themselves from family members who are not also involved. This can lead to friction within a family. <\/p>
New Religious movements can often be referred to as cults and it’s an excusable comparison. And it doesn’t have to have the bad connotation. NASA is a cult of rocket scientist and they’re the only ones so far who have made it to the Moon. <\/p>
But people who join these movements are doing so to fill a deep need to belong that they have. So they belong to this NRM. Truly embrace it. <\/p>
Also of course perhaps being questioned by members of their family build a slightly defensive position towards. Perhaps it practices are questioned in the press. Then it’s a good idea to doubt the press and shout ‘they are all against us’…<\/p>
If you then start a family in this environment your bringing kids into this community who suffer for a few reasons. <\/p>
The first is these cultish groups morph the sense of family into a sense of community. So your immediately not a member of your family but a member of the community. <\/p>
So the feeling of needing to belong to a strong tight knit group of the parent is immediately being put on the child to belong to this wider commune. <\/p>
